Beyond the tired "accounting software vs accountant" debate: which company owners actually move to real-time financial steering, what it changes in the relationship with their accountant, and why we designed Orizen to steer rather than to replace Pennylane.

I Who it is for

Financial tracking built for the people running the company, not for the accountants producing the statements.

Many companies confuse keeping the books, which is the accountant's job, with financial steering, which is the owner's. Orizen does not replace the first, it frees up the second. Four profiles keep coming back to us.

Owner who wants to steer in real time

You wait for your accountant's statements three months after the close to learn where you stand. For three months, you steer blind.

Revenue booked, cash flow forecast, unpaid invoices: visible every morning. You decide on today's numbers, not on numbers from six months ago.

Finance director or controller

You spend more time consolidating spreadsheets and chasing the accountant than analysing. Leadership wants real time, you have month-plus-thirty.

Financial dashboards fed continuously by Orizen sales data. You move from collecting to analysing, and from analysing to deciding.

Accountant looking after small business clients

You collect your clients' documents as PDFs, by email, in no particular order. Several hours of retyping per file per month.

Your Orizen clients send you their invoices in a structured format, through Pennylane or the FEC export. You get time back for advisory work.

Startup founder raising money

Your investors want current financial indicators: MRR, runway, cash burn. Today that means manual, monthly, painful reporting.

A financial dashboard investors understand: projected cash, incoming payments, ARR and MRR. Updated continuously.

II Steering, alive

You steer on today's numbers, not on numbers from six months ago.

The visual detail below: the real accounting headaches, the Orizen and Pennylane pairing that saves your accountant time, what Orizen tracks for you, and the dedicated view your accountant gets.

The small company accounting headache

Squeezed between the day job and running the business, the accounts often end up improvised. Until the year-end panic.

Numbers scattered

Your invoices are in one tool, your payments in another, your expenses in a spreadsheet. Nobody sees the same picture at the same time.

Cash flow unknown

How much comes in this month? In 3 months? Without a forecast you run on sight, and you find out about the problems too late.

VAT worked out by hand

You pull data from several sources for each return. A source of mistakes, a waste of time and a tax risk.

Accountant swamped at year-end

You send boxes of receipts in December. Your accountant spends hours rebuilding what could have been automatic.

Orizen and Pennylane, the right pairing

Two complementary tools, nothing entered twice. Each does what it does best.

III How it goes

Financial steering in place the month you start, not next year.

Three clear milestones: a first dashboard on day 1, the structured bridge to your accountant in week 1, and a projected cash curve by month 1.

Day 1 · First dashboard

Your numbers light up.

  • Issued invoices imported, by CSV or through the connector
  • Revenue booked for the month on screen
  • First unpaid invoices surfaced
Week 1 · The bridge to your accountant

No more PDFs emailed to your accountant.

  • Pennylane connector configured, or FEC export set up
  • First structured transfer to the accountant
  • A guided video call with a human from Orizen included
Month 1 · The cash flow forecast

You see what is coming before it arrives.

  • 30/60/90 day cash projection switched on
  • VAT due calculated automatically
  • Comparison with the previous month available
IV Frequently asked questions

The answers to the questions we get asked most.

Does Orizen replace my accountant?

No. Orizen follows your financial activity day to day (revenue, unpaid invoices, cash, VAT) and sends the documents to your accountant automatically in a structured format. Your accountant keeps their role: keeping the books, producing the annual accounts and advising you. Orizen saves them data-entry time so they can give you advisory time.

How does Orizen connect to my accountant?

If your accountant uses Pennylane, the native connector sends your sales invoices automatically in a structured format, with payment matching and automatic reconciliation. For Sage, Cegid, EBP, Quadratus and others, Orizen produces a standard FEC file, the French accounting entries export, which your accountant imports in seconds.

How does Orizen work out my cash flow forecast?

Orizen combines your issued invoices, with their due dates and payment probabilities drawn from each customer's history, your supplier commitments, your known recurring costs and your revenue forecasts, to produce a cash curve over 30, 60 and 90 days. You see the dips before they arrive, which helps you decide whether to chase a payment or postpone an investment.

How does Orizen track output VAT?

Every invoice issued in Orizen carries its VAT. The finance module consolidates the output VAT for the month and the quarter automatically, gives you the amount due and flags the filing deadlines. Input VAT on purchases stays with your accountant.

What happens with my unpaid invoices?

The financial dashboard lists unpaid invoices by age: current, 1 day, 15 days, 30 days, 60 days past due. You see the total to recover and the customers furthest behind at a glance. Reminders can go out automatically, through the invoicing module, or wait for your approval.

Is my financial data really hosted in France?

Yes, entirely. Orizen is published by ForgeTheWeb, a French company based in Toulouse, and hosts its data on OVH servers located in France. No transfer outside the European Union, GDPR compliance built in. Your financial data stays within your own jurisdiction.

V What we believe

Why we follow the money differently.

We have seen too many owners discover their financial position three months after the quarter ended, instead of having a current view that would have let them adjust during it.

We have seen too many accountants spend half their time retyping PDFs received in no particular order, instead of advising their clients.

We have seen too many companies steer on revenue, an encouraging figure that says nothing about whether you will be paid, while the actual cash sat waiting.

So we built the financial side of Orizen differently. Not to replace your accountant, but so they become your adviser rather than your data-entry clerk. And so that you, running the company, steer on today's numbers rather than on numbers from six months ago.
